Amer Sports secures SBTi validation for science-based climate targets

Feb 20, 2025 1 min read

We have reached a milestone in our sustainability journey: the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially validated our near-term and net-zero science-based targets. This validation confirms that our greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction commitments align with the latest climate science and contribute to limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C.

The SBTi is a globally recognized climate action organization that establishes best practices for corporate emissions reductions and independently validates companies’ targets. It is backed by CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Our approved science-based targets

Climate science is clear: to prevent global temperatures from reaching critical levels, urgent action is needed from all parties to significantly reduce emissions. By setting and working toward our ambitious targets, we are taking responsibility for our climate impact. With SBTi validation, we join over 4,200 businesses committed to science-based action in line with the Paris Agreement.

Our validated targets focus on reducing emissions across our entire value chain, including our brands, operations, and supply chain.

Near-term targets (to be achieved by 2030, using 2022 as the baseline year):

  • Reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 60%.
  • Reduce absolute scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from purchased goods and services, upstream and downstream transportation and distribution by 25%.

Long-term and net-zero targets (to be achieved by 2050, using 2022 as the baseline year):

  • Reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90%.
  • Reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions by 90%.
  • Achieve net-zero emissions across the entire value chain.

“This validation is a great milestone and a recognition of the hard work across our teams, but more importantly, it marks the start of the real work ahead. Reaching our targets will require collaboration across teams, innovation in materials and logistics, and close engagement with our suppliers and partners,” says Anne Larilahti, SVP of Sustainability at Amer Sports.

Our approach prioritizes direct emissions reductions through decarbonization, focusing on transitioning to renewable energy and improving energy efficiency across operations. Any remaining emissions at net-zero will be neutralized in accordance with SBTi criteria.

Amer Sports’ greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are categorized into Scopes 1, 2, and 3 in accordance with the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, a widely used framework for measuring and managing emissions.
