When two alpine icons come together, the result is nothing short of extraordinary: the limited-edition Maverick 115 CTI. This ski not only showcases alpine craftsmanship and performance, but also highlights the synergy between two brands that share a deep commitment to innovation and excellence.
In this behind-the-scenes look, we uncover the story of how Atomic and Arc’teryx joined forces to create a ski that not only performs at the highest level, but also tells a unique story of collaboration.
Where it all began
The idea for the collaboration came from Arc’teryx’s Grottoflage collection. James Fairbank, Atomic’s VP of Marketing, shared, “It all started with their Grottoflage collection, an abstracted take on their logo, and we thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool to create a ski that complements this?’ The alignment between our brands’ craftsmanship and maker DNA made the idea irresistible.”
The collaboration was rooted in mutual admiration and the overlapping strengths of the two brands. The similarities between Atomic’s ski factory in Altenmarkt and Arc’teryx’s Vancouver manufacturing facility—both hubs of high-tech and handcrafted expertise—laid the groundwork for collaboration. With a shared roster of athletes, including skier Craig Murray, the partnership quickly gained momentum.
Crafting the Maverick 115 CTI
The Maverick 115 CTI is designed for freeride enthusiasts. Featuring a core construction that reduces material-based CO2 equivalent emissions by 24%, the ski balances wood and metal while maintaining stability, power, and versatility.
The ski’s unique aesthetic was a joint effort. Arc’teryx provided the Grottoflage pattern, and Atomic’s ski graphics team used spot varnish and matte glossy techniques to bring the design to life. “We wanted the branding to be subtle yet striking,” said James. “When the light catches it, the details pop, giving it depth and personality.”
The ski was developed in collaboration with Craig Murray, whose input ensured it met the highest performance standards. With its 115mm waist and HRZN 3D tip, the Maverick 115 CTI excels in powder, making it a perfect match for backcountry adventures.
This project exemplifies how two brands can come together to create something exceptional by combining their expertise and passion for the mountains.
