From a small company in Finland to shaping the future of sports around the world—Amer Sports turns 75.
March 3, 2025 marks a significant milestone for Amer Sports: 75 years of growth and evolution. Founded in 1950, Amer Sports began as a company focused on supporting Finland’s post-war rebuilding efforts. Over the decades, we evolved into a key player in the global sporting goods industry, bringing together some of the most respected brands in equipment and apparel for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts.
Expanding into sports
Amer Sports’ journey began in 1950 as a tobacco company, but it didn’t take long for our entrepreneurial drive to lead us into new industries. By the mid-1960s, we had expanded into shipping, broadening our business landscape. In 1970, we took another bold step forward with the acquisition of Finnish printing and publishing company Weilin+Göös, establishing a publishing and printing division that remained a core part of our operations for over 25 years.
Our journey into sports began in 1974 with the acquisition of Koho-Tuote, a renowned ice hockey equipment manufacturer trusted by some of the world’s best players. This pivotal moment set the foundation for our long-term focus on sports. Throughout the years, we steadily strengthened our portfolio, bringing together some of the most respected names in the industry:
- 1989: Wilson joined Amer Sports, cementing our presence in ball and racquet sports.
- 1990s: Atomic, a pioneer in ski technology, expanded our expertise in winter sports.
- 2000s: Salomon and Arc’teryx set new standards in trail running, hiking, and mountaineering gear, while reinforcing our position in winter sports.
- 2010s: Peak Performance and Armada further strengthened our presence in premium outdoor apparel and freestyle skiing.

A new era as a NYSE-listed company
A defining moment in our journey was our listing on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on February 1, 2024. This milestone not only strengthened our market position but also opened new opportunities for growth, partnerships, and innovation.
As we celebrate 75 years, we look to the future with confidence. Our passion for sport, commitment to innovation, and dedication to authenticity will continue to drive us forward. Together with our brands, employees, and partners we are shaping the next era of Amer Sports.” — James Zheng, CEO, Amer Sports
