In June 2024, Wilson proudly celebrated the opening of its state-of-the-art football factory in Ada, Ohio, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards excellence in everything we do. This new facility not only represents dedication to innovation and quality, but also commitment to the communities we serve.
Andy Wentling, Plant Manager at the Wilson Ada factory, shares his insights on what this development means for the brand.
“With a history dating back to 1929, the Ada factory has been a cornerstone of our football production. The new facility, replacing the one in use since 1955, addresses the challenges of the old structure and provides a modern space for growth, customization, and innovation,” says Andy.
A space for growth and innovation
The new factory is a hub of activity and innovation, where every Wilson NFL game football, known as “The Duke,” is handcrafted through a meticulous 20-step process. This process is a celebration of tradition and precision, ensuring that each football meets the rigorous standards required for professional play.
“The new factory allows us to innovate with agility and respond to the evolving needs of the sports industry. It gives our dedicated craftsmen and craftswomen more space to continue their game-changing work and allows us to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in sports equipment manufacturing. We’re not just making footballs—we’re crafting a legacy of quality and performance that resonates on every field,” says Andy.
A personal experience beyond manufacturing
The new facility includes a football museum celebrating iconic Wilson and NFL moments, a pop-up shop and manufacturing tours.
“It’s exciting to open the factory for tours,” Andy explains. “People can come and see how a football is made, and even customize one with their name. It’s a way to connect with athletes and fans, showing them the craftsmanship that goes into every ball.”
From Ada’s soil to the NFL: a legacy of local craft
Andy’s pride in the Ada community is evident. “Building the factory here, in our own backyard, is a testament to the talent and dedication of the local workforce. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see the footballs we produce in Ada being used by athletes nationwide, knowing that it all starts right here.”
The excitement surrounding the factory’s launch extends beyond the walls of the factory. “There’s a palpable buzz among our teams,” says Andy. “Seeing a football that was made in Ada, perform in high-stakes games, brings a sense of pride that’s hard to match. It’s a reminder that our work has a direct impact on the community and the sport we love.”
